Are there any health benefits for heavy drinkers?
I have a friend who is now 83 and has been drinking approx 1L of Whiskey a day (mixed drinks - with grapefruit juice) for over 40 years now.
He is in excellent health (other than the hangovers), on no medications, no sickness, low blood pressure, and he has a very healthy Diet.
Obviously, something about the way he drinks, what he mixes it with, and his overall diet has been a big plus for him.
Why don’t researchers talk about success stories like this one?
There are no health benefits for heavy drinkers, it’s the easiest thing in the world to pick one or two people who has survived and called them a ’success’ story, my granny smoked all her life and died at 82, therefore smoking is good for you?
I work in an alcohol rehab clinic and I’ve been to funerals of people in the 20s and 30s age group.
Researchers don’t look at the few ’success’ stories as you call them, but as the problem as a whole, you’re probably too young to remember Stirling Moss as a Formula One racing driver, he’s 81 now, does that mean formula one racing is a safe sport?

That’s horrable and pathetic and a stupid comment on your part, a success story.
It is probably his genetics that he hasn’t died yet. At this point he has to drink daily otherwise the severe alcohol withdrawl he would experience would kill him.

no way man he needs to see a different doctor because 1l of whiskey a day his liver must be a mess…..he must be a very hardworking fit outgoing person to live that long while drinking so much but i suppose you are right fair play to him!
