"Thermic effect" - "catabolic" - "negative calorie" - I have a question about foods that burn calories…?
I’m hearing all these terms, and it seems too good to be true.
Is it true that things like apples, sweet potatoes, pears, etc. actually burn more calories than they contain?
Let’s say an apple has 80 calories; is it true that you will burn over 80 calories by digesting the apple?

    Any advice is appreciated!

I can clear up the confusion. Your body needs the proper nutritional tools to target fat burn. If you eat empty calories, regardless if you have your calories in check, you will not burn fat!

Yams are full of fiber, therefore, your body will break it down slowly and convert it as a slow steady energy. This keeps your blood sugar even for several hours and decreases appetite.

White potatoes don’t have fiber, therefore, your body converts it to fast sugar energy, which makes your blood sugar spike and increases your appetite and triggers fat stores.

The bottom line is that it’s not the food causing anything or doing anything. It is what your body naturally prefers for a healthy slimmer you!

Another example would be apples and pears compared to plain popcorn or white rice. The apples and pears are loaded with fiber and much needed enzymes that break down fats in the digestion process. The popcorn and white rice are empty calories that offer nothing but sugar conversions that increase appetite, cause lethargy and fat stores.

So, I have been in the practice of eating whole grains, raw fruits and vegetables every single day and eating more on my plate than someone watching their weight. I don’t count calories, I eat when I’m hungry and stop when full.

    I probably consume about 3,000 to 5,000 calories a day and I haven’t gained a pound.

It’s because of my food choices. I eat healthy food choices and don’t eat anything manipulated by man.

    No artificial sweeteners

I don’t eat anything white, the exception is cauliflower. No white flower products or white rice or white potatoes.

I don’t eat fried food, but once every six months or year.

I consider pizza junk food and all fast food places junk food.

What I do eat instead of pizza: Home made crusty bread with chopped tomatoes, garlic, basal and olive oil drizzled on top with feta cheese.

Organic sea salted boheta olives and pasta with home made marinara sauce, and a side salad with a medley of at least, 7 different raw vegetables with Organic virgin pressed Olive oil and Balsamic Vinegar.

My fruits are: All citrus fruits, pineapple, mango, papaya, cherries, pomegranate, apples, pears, all stone fruits like peaches, plumbs etc. All raw, not fruit roll ups, they are not real.

My meats are: Grain fed beef, like a steak or whole hormone free fowl, like turkey and chicken, and organic eggs. White fish, orange ruffy, cod, mahi mahi, and sometimes sushi.

Very little dairy and love chocolate: Home made organic ice cream once in a blue. Organic raw chocolate beans (super food loaded with anti aging antioxidants), also like to blend raw chocolate smoothies. Cooked chocolate doesn’t have the properties that raw chocolate has.

What I eat for grains: Whole grains like Hemp Seeds, Kamut (relative of wheat and as old as ancient Egypt), Teff (worlds smallest grain from Ethiopia), Flax, from the seeds to the oil, Whole oats, steel cut oats, not instant. instant is junk food. Also, sprouted bread, not white bread.

Very little dairy and mostly dairy replacements are: Whole organic soy vanilla and almond milk. Organic whole raw yogurt once in a while. Organic cheeses once in a while, not an every day thing.

Lots of nuts and seeds, raw… They are great to add to salads, hot cereals, and as snacks with fruit.

Believe me, I eat, I don’t starve just because I hate junk food. Foods do matter. You are what you eat, you don’t just catch a disease, all disease is related to diet.

Oh yeah, yes, I do eat a desert once in a while. I like cream brulee, but get it once every so many months when I go out for a great gourmet wine dinner.

I am no scientist, and there is a lot of info out there which I am sure you have already read. What I do know is that the so called "negative calorie" foods are truly very low calorie, so you can eat tons of them and get full, while still not consuming very many calories. They are all non-fat and full of fiber for the most part, which takes more energy (therefore burning more calories- kinda like your gut is exercising instead of your body) than fatty or processed foods take.

My advice would be eat a lot of them because they are healthy and they will help fill you up, (and maybe therefore help you lose weight) but be cautious of this whole "negative calorie" thing, and don’t stop exercising thinking you can just go on an all celery diet. People want to believe there’s a quick simple answer for losing weight, and this just seems to be the new trend.
