What other supplements can I take besides kelp and flax seed to benefit my body?

Friday, July 16th, 2010

I’m kind of a health freak, very healthy diet, strict workout plan, and some supplements mainly flax seed and kelp. Besides these, what other natural supplements could I take to benefit/detoxify my body long term?

Highly nutritious foods you should consider: sprouts, chlorella, spirulina, paprika, turnip greens, mustard greens, kale, garlic, brewers yeast, raw almonds, ground flax seeds & chia seeds.

For optimal health, I advocate a low carb way of eating. As long as you have <9grams carbs per hour,
you will maintain insulin control, which will balance hormones & allow your body to function properly. You shouldn’t gain weight, no matter the calories, because insulin (the ONLY fat storage hormone) isn’t activated.

I personally believe in using fat as fuel instead of carbohydrates. Fat is totally benign in the absence of insulin. There aren’t enough calories in vegetables & fruits to fuel the body, if you get enough calories from carbs to fuel the body, then you maintain an almost constant high insulin level with roller coaster blood glucose levels. I recommend fats from butter, coconut, olives, nuts, fish & meats, chia seeds & flax seeds.

When you restrict higher carb, lower nutrition foods, it becomes much easier to greatly increase vegetables in your Diet. Change your mindset just adapt it to low carb -
replace bread with lettuce
replace pasta with cabbage
replace rice with cauliflower
replace potatoes with brocolli

Carbohydrates trigger insulin (the fat storage hormone). Protein triggers the fat burning hormone glucagon.

High carb levels trigger insulin which unbalance other hormones, promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger. Controlling insulin levels will balance out other hormones and allow sex hormones (testosterone in men) & human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so lean muscle will be gained even without exercise.

Paprika - 1 Tablespoon = 20 cal = 71% DV Vit.A - 8% DV Vit.C - 10% DV Vit.E - 14% DV Vit.B6 - 9% DV Iron & others way too many to list.

Brewer’s Yeast Powder - Two tblspns. provide a whole lot of nutrition! 158% RDA Chromium - 90% Selenium - 88% B2 - 80% B1 - 50% Copper - 50% Niacin - 40% B6

Chia seeds sound so expensive but 1# will make 10# food - Amazon.com has couple lbs. for $16 shipped to you. I buy in bulk (24#) from getchia.com for $5.83# with free shipping.

Chia seeds - 3.5 oz is nearly 500 calories, half calories from fat (high in Omega3 fatty acids) 38g fiber 151%DV & 16grams of COMPLETE protein for 6grams carbs & 63% DV Calcium - 95% Phosphorus - 23% Zinc - 9% Copper - 108% Manganese.

Faux tapioca - 2 cups of water, 5 scoops of low carb whey protein powder, stir together & add cup of chia seeds, after they have started to absorb the water, add in 2 cans of coconut milk & sweetener if you like and mix it all in. Can be eaten after an hour but will be better tomorrow. Cream a pkg. of cream cheese into a can of pumpkin and add to the faux tapioca for an even more nutritious pumpkin pie pudding.

Ground flax seed (4 Tbsp) 1/4 cup water, sweetener, cinnamon & mix in a raw egg - let sit 10 min. to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle & nuke 2 minutes. Suggested for daily fiber needs.

I make a "porridge" as suggested by Dr.Mercola - low carb whey powder & water, I add ground flax seeds, chia seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds, coconut milk, tahini (ground sesame seeds) & raw egg. All seeds & nuts are raw & soaked to germinate them.

Flax seed - 3.5oz - 534 cal - 65% calories from fat (high in Omega3 fatty acids) for 2gram carb - 27g fiber 109%DV - 26% DV Calcium - 64% Phosphorus - 29% Zinc - 61% Copper - 124% Manganese - 36% Selenium - 98% Magnesium - 32% Iron - 110% Thiamin - 9% B2 Riboflavin - 15% B3 Niacin - 24% Vit.B6 - 22% Folate - 10% Vit.B5.- 39% Potassium

Raw nuts are living and full of the energy of life and should be capable of building a tree. Roasted nuts are dead & they may still provide some nutrients, but none can compare to the nutrients and enzymes from a live food.

Unfortunately, raw does not necessarily mean living.

Commercially sold almonds are now required to be pasteurized turning a live food into a dead one. You can not sprout an almond that has been irradiated. I buy my almonds direct from growers off ebay. I get 20# for less than $3# including shipping.

Almonds- 3.5oz - 575 cal - 72% calories from fat for 10gram carb & 26% DV Calcium - 48% Phosphorus - 21% Zinc - 50% Copper - 114% Manganese - 67% Magnesium - 21% Iron - 14% Thiamin - 60% B2 Riboflavin - 17% B3 Niacin - 131% Vit.E - Potassium 20%

Sunflower seeds - 3.5oz - 81% Magnesium - 18% Potassium - 584 cal -11gram carb - 9g fiber 34%DV - 8% DV Calcium - 66% Phosphorus - 33% Zinc - 90% Copper - 97% Manganese - 76% Selenium - 29% Iron - 99% Thiamin - 21% B2 Riboflavin - 42% B3 Niacin - 67% Vit.B6 - 57% Folate - 11% Vit.B5. - 166% Vit.E

Dried Cilantro 1oz - 49% Magnesium - 36% Potassium - 35% DV Calcium - 13% Phosphorus - 9% Zinc - 25% Copper - 89% Manganese - 12% Selenium - 66% Iron - 23% Thiamin - 25% B2 Riboflavin - 15% B3 Niacin - 9% Vit.B6 - 19% Folate - Vit.A 33% - vit C 264% - 476% Vit.K

Welfare dependancy: who benefits?

Friday, June 25th, 2010

The welfare state was once celebrated as a keystone of post-war Britain, but while the NHS and state education are still widely valued, state benefits are now accused of fostering a dependency culture which traps people. With cuts in public spending looming as the recession bites, and yet more people likely to need state support, should the focus be on cash for those who need it, or more intensive intervention to get people working? At this Battle of Ideas festival panel debate, speakers include: social policy writer Dave Clements; journalist Rowenna Davis; director of think tank Reform, Andrew Haldenby; and Policy and Membership director at DrugScope, Dr Marcus Roberts. Is it true that a vegan diet is the healthiest possible diet you can follow?

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

I did hear this statement from a vegan, so I am doubting its reliability. But I’ve always wondered how they’ve manage to get sufficient levels of things such as calcium, which is plentiful in dairy products, but not much else, and I’ve never been any good with swallowing pills, which this vegan friend of mine does on a daily basis as she gets her calcium from calcium tablets. You see, I’m currently investigating different diets for their health benefits. There is a reason for this: People in my family have a tendency to develop liver issues in later life, and so I’m wondering if a change in diet can help me to avoid this? My father, for example, had liver issues that means he can no longer eat ‘fatty’ foods such as cheese and full-fat milk, which I note are both off-limits in the vegan diet?

So I guess my question is this: Is it true that a vegan diet (and one that is balanced, not just chips and baked beans) really is one of the healthiest diets you can follow? Or can you suggest me another diet that you think would be better?
I currently follow a vegetarian Diet. No meat, poultry or fish.
A vegan diet excludes all consumption of animal products. No dairy, meat etc.

personally and studying arrhythmia and other physical organism conditions, I’d say yes for sure.

If you ONLY looked at one thing- fibre- you can 100% day that animal protien has none at all.
It is impossible to digest and get fibre from cheese meat dairy etc.
If you ONLY looked at another thing- cholesterol, then it is ONLY animal produce that us humans get sick by eating. We do make our own cholesterol. We have never needed more of it. This fact alone makes dairy and meat a kind of dumb argument that cannot be won- we simply are not supposed to eat this stuff and be OK- this is why our bodies are made with DNA to utilise all the foods we get from around us- plants nuts seeds, fruits veg, and make all our nuritents.

Without even trying hard, we make out own cholesterol, with only a simple veg and fruit diet.
There is NO organism in nature that eats from the nature sources around it, in the way it is designed to do, that will get sick from those things- plant do not eat blood one day and then get sick. They take in water and minerals from the water and soil- that is it.
No wild animal eats chips and differentl food than is naturally avail, and gets sick from it. They eat what their biological stucture needs and is designed for.

For example- a meat eating animal has a very short intestine with no nooks and twists. It is designed to absorb fat and salt from its’ diet namely, meat, blood and so on.

A plant eating animal has a long twisting intestine, which has been designed for absorbing water, nutirients from plant food- vitamins, minerals, and fresh things that give the organism ( the body) all the nutrients it needs.

Guess what. Humans have long twisted intestings, we absorb vitamins, minerals through the lining, but meat eating animals onyl absorb salt and fat through thier intestine.

We have flat teeth like a horse or chimpanzee.

Our bodies have been designed to absorb and digest vegetable matter. We need that roughage and fibre. We cannot digest non fibre foods.
The vegetable matter that we eat is NOT meant to simply sweep the meat along- that is not an argument. That would be like saying we need to keep fit in order to undo the damage of eating junk food.
Bad math.

We get ALL the nutrients that our bodies need from real sources.

BE honesy , when is the last time you ate fava beans, sunflower kernals, fermented seaweed, sprouted grains, milk from coconuts, fruit juices from the source, without HFCS or adding sugar, barley, fresh grown almonds, cranberries of a shrub, pure water , dark green leaves and freshly growing herbs, mushrooms, seeds from the fruit and veg you eat?

Probably never, but why? It is noones fauly they don’t eat actual FOOD, but themselves.
Exactly what you say- not just a diet of chips and beans- this is a terrible diet and the whole reason anyone, let alone a vegan might neds vitamin pills.

People are really really lazy with thier diet, and they DON’T eat 90% of the foods they should- nuts and seeds re a HUGE source- they are the protein the calcium, the fibre that people need.

ANd also I don’t believe any human being should be drinking breast milk from cows. That makes literally no sense. Not even a grown cow woudl do that.
You’talking about health, no personal taste.
Why anyone actually thinks cow breat milk is good- and my god it is in everything- soup, cereal, stews, frozen meals etc, - is totally weird to me.

If people actually ate the food they are MADE to eat, then nobody would even think twice about saying vegans are weird. They’d all be way too fit and healthy to think about it.

Dairy is a weird odd thing. It has no fibre, and no animal in the wild will eat it cooked, NO animal eats the milk from a grown animal excpet the babaies of that breed.

NO animal eats cooked eggs, cooked protein in any form. Except us odd sick humans.

Paleo diet vs. vegetarian diet (no healthy grains or beans?!?!?!)?

Monday, June 14th, 2010

I have been hearing about the Paleo diet a lot over the past few weeks. What I don’t understand is why you can’t have beans like Adzuki that have health benefits? Or healthy grains like Quinoa, millet, buckweat groats.. I want to try this way of living, but I have always been brought to assume that mostly vegetarian diets with beans is the healtheist Diet. Can anyone help me understand a little better? Thanks a bunch

The point of the Paleo diet is to go back to a diet that our bodies are built to handle. Why re-invent the wheel when there is a known "good" blueprint for a healthy diet from an evolutionary perspective?

If you think about it, our bodies are not equipped to handle man-made foods like trans fats, processed carbs(sugar, white flour, etc.), and highly processed, toxic vegetable oils.

Show me a person that eats large quantities of any of the above items, and I will show you a very unhealthy person.

Agriculture was not was not invented back then, so no grains. There is nothing in grains that you cannot get from other sources. Calorie for calorie, vegetables are much more nutrient dense than grains. Vegetables also have a much lower insulin spike compared to grains. Our Paleo ancestors did not have a problem with diabetes, but we do. Part of that problem is directly related to eating way too much grains.

Also, please do not make any assumptions about any diets. If your assumptions and reality are different, then it could be very damaging to your health. Do your due diligence before making any sort of major dietary changes.

Good luck.

Is Vanilla flavoured Green Tea healthy to drink on a diet?

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

I am currently dieting and I was recommended to drink green tea on a daily basis to aid weight loss
However I cannot stomach the taste of regular green tea (even with honey in), so I found a vanilla infused green tea which is nice

My question is, will the fact that is has vanilla in take away the benefits of green tea and is it ok to drink on a diet?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
This isn’t bottled green tea it is teabagged green tea with vanilla infusions.

No, actually. Green tea as found in America and the green tea drinks you buy in bottles contains lots of fluoride. Fluoride depletes the iodine in your body and causes your THYROID gland to slow down. This decreases your metabolism and will work against you when trying to lose weight. SOY does the same thing due to the goitrogens in soy.

There is a green tea extract that can be purchased that uses probiotic bacteria to break down the fluoride and caffeine in the green tea and 1 tsp. of that is equal to drinking 20 cups of green tea without the garbage. With that, you get all the benefits without the bad effects.

EDIT: Green tea in bottles or in powder form still contains the fluoride. I would NOT drink it on a Diet, nor would I drink it if I were not on a diet.

good luck to you
