Is Hula Hooping an affective way to lose weight?

Monday, April 26th, 2010

If so, how long would it take to see results if one were
to hula hoop for about 30 minutes everyday?
(Includes healthy Diet and and extra 45 minutes of
running dailty too)

And what are some other health benefits of hula hooping?

Thanks (:
I’m 100lbs and 5′3 and a half.
I’m not fat or anything,
I just have a bit of a belly that
I’d like to work off (:

lol, um yeah, any movement is effective in loosing weight! and if you are having fun doing it too then why not?
the amount you would burn depends on you weight, height, caloric intake and metabolic rate… so im not entirely sure… good luck though! you should definately see results within a couple of weeks though, usually a kilo a week is the healthiest :)

What are the benefits of sit ups?

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

Can they help give you a flatter stomach if you combine it with a healthy low fat Diet? Ive just started doing 100 sit ups a day but ive been told its pointless and a waste of time because all it will do is make my abs stronger….?

That is actually very true. If you would like to decrease the size of your stomach you are going to have to maintain a healthy diet, as well as run 3-4 times a week for about 30 min. Anything you try to do sit-up wise will just increase your overall ab size and strength, but you will not be able to see your abs until you get rid of your stomach fat. Also try going in a sauna or steam room after your done running if you go to a gym.

What are some healthy diets and supplements good for men at the age of 47?

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

Hello my fellow yahoo-ers haha, well my dad is 47 years old and lately I’ve been worried about his health. He looks fine and eats well; however, one can never be to sure right? So I was wondering if you could please help me out and give me insights on things that will benefit his health. For instance, an example would be like things to eat, exercises, supplements, and any other thing that you guys might add would be great. I would really appreciate if you guys help me out, like I said this is for my dad and I care for him so much. Thank you! :) Thank you so much! your reply’s helped me a lot!

You are going to get all sort of wacky answers on here, so I will try to give you the best one.

In a perfect world, he should eat well, fruits, vegetables, raw foods, avoid fried, fatty, charred foods. Eat whole grains, high fiber etc.

Fish oil capsules are good as they provide omega 3 essential fatty acids. There is a lot of research suggesting these are good for heart, cholesterol, energy, mood. 2 to 3 grams is a good idea.

If you live somewhere that gets cold in the winter, vitamin D3 is important. 1000 units daily in the winter. Summer he won’t need it.

A mens multivitamin probably doesn’t hurt, but shop around for a good one. Consumerlabs.com has some suggestions.

An 81 mg baby aspirin for men over age 40 is recommended, has been shown to prevent and reduce the risk for heart attack, stroke etc.

Other than that, there isn’t much recommended unless he has specific conditions that may need assistance like diabetes etc.

What benefits would a healthy diet provide, if given to residents at a homeless shelter?

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

My daughter is involved in a homeless shelter, and most of the food served is high fat processed food. She would like to bring in local fresh food, and is hoping to make a case to the owners. Guests have the usual range of problems…drink, depression, etc and we were wondering if anyone could help us find info on how a good Diet could help improve the lot of the residents. Some seems obvious..I suppose depression can be helped, for instance, by good energy levels, and good food may help self esteem.
But can anyone help us find some relevant online sources of info?

Thank you…all help gratefully recieved…and will be used.

Beechnut.

Well thats a good idea……Beechy.
I worked for 6 years within homelessness.
The best way to approach this is to provide gradual intro.
Also..sometimes its not so clear cut as one would suppose.
For example tinned processed carrots provide more nutritional benefit than fresh grated etc.
I would be inclined to look at the type of meals they are getting and improve on ingredients for the same dishes.
That way the clients wouldn’t see much change in their type of food.
Its all very well having good ideas, but if the cook/cooks are not on board you might as well urinate into the wind.
Theres lots of simple ways to improve their diet without making a song and dance.
Also don’t forget that good presentation and some comfort food has a more beneficial effect that good well balanced calorie controlled approach. Food is as much about psychology as it is diet efficient.
There is a Homeless magazine for the Uk..one simple enquiry to this homeless Alliance magazine will return a shed load of good and practical solutions. As always there will be a hostel that has got this one covered hook line and sinker.

Hope you are ok Beechy

Is this a balanced healthy diet?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

This is similar to how I usually eat.

A banana
3 tangerines.

a bowl of pineapple

cup of carrot juice

cup of celery juice

a tablespoon of organic Apple Cider Vinegar (for health benefits)

Pills:
Vitamin D3
Vitamin C
Fish Oil
Odorless Garlic Pill
—Green Tea Extract
Cranberry Pill
Ginger Pill
(Ran out of Vitamin B12..must get today and take! :o)

I had a spoon full of vegan chocolate chip cookie because I got tempted after making them :p

Later I will most likely have a bowl of broccoli, some spinach,
and then a bowl of strawberries.
^-^ and I’ve been drinking tea with cinnamon in it all day, because lately that’s been my obsession. Plus I heard cinnamon aids in the digestion process. :) and I’m going to have MORE BANANAS LATER, love emm, lol ..and maybe an apple

Sounds yummy & healthy. You probably are already aware of this, but fish oil (even in pill form) isn’t vegetarian or vegan, but it can be easily replaced with flax seeds or flax seed oil. If you happen to have a dehydrator, making veggie chips with flax seeds would be really good. Here’s a recipe:

Garlic Flax Crackers

These crackers are great for making sandwiches! Place a nut or veggie burger in between two crackers with some lettuce and sliced tomatos and you have a delicious, filling meal!
Garlic Bulb I like to score the mixture with a knife once I flip them over. This makes them easier to break into crackers once dried.

Ingredients:

* 2 cups flax seeds
* 1/4 cup Braggs Liquid Aminos
* 1 lemon, juiced
* 1 Tbsp garlic powder

Directions:

1. Soak flax seeds in 4 cups distilled water for 30 minutes or more.
2. Strain lightly through a cheese cloth or nut milk bag and add back to bowl. You don’t have to get all the liquid out, just the excess. It should still have a gel like consistency.
3. Add the remaining ingredients.
4. Spread onto Teflex lined dehydrator trays. Dehydrate at 115 degrees F for about 4 hours. Flip the sheets over and remove the liners. Dehydrate for an additional 4 hours or until crisp.

Can anyone give me a diet and exercise plan?

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

I am almost 18 years old with a height of 5′ 5" and weight of 230. I really want to lose a healthy amount of weight before graduation on May 28th. I really need help finding a perfect diet and exercise plan that will benefit me greatly. My goal is to be a little bit leaner and fit by the time of my graduation. If anyone could please help me I will be greatly appreciative. Thank You. (If you can any other small tips that i could use that would be great also.)

I have been through it all and know what’s it about. The main thing is to stick in there. You can’t be an addict to food and never exercise if you want to live a healthy life and keep the weight off. I’ve worked out, done every diet, and all types of classes.

Nothing works, besides dedication and intelligence towards the subject of losing weight.

First, depending on how much weight you need to lose, your diet is the first concern. You can’t eat 10,000 calories a day and expect the weight to come off, even if you are exercising a lot. Which brings us to the next thing. Duh, Exercising…

This is a must especially if you need to a lot of weight. Get at least 30 mins of some good hardcore exercising. Do some cardio, in the long run, it’s good for the heart.

However, I find the most hardest part of losing weight/keeping it off, in my diet. It’s so hard to keep your fingers out of the cookie jar or those chocolate goodies. I’ve found a great addition to help any one out, it’s a natural weight loss supplement called ProShapeRX. Now don’t get all crazy on me and say Diet pills don’t work. That is true, but not in this case. This one isn’t meant to burn pounds while you sit on the couch. It’s an appetite suppressant, along with being a fat binder. I saved money on the pills at theweightlossplace dot com along with getting some good info, also if your in time, theres a limited free trial where all you have to do is pay like 5 bucks for s/h which I took advantage of but in the long run, I ended up ordering more. It basically makes those fingers not go towards the cookie jar. For me it’s the best pill I’ve tried and I’ve tried cupboards full. Now this doesn’t mean you have to follow my foot steps but I’ve successfully lost roughly 70 pounds and keeping it off til this day.

Well good luck and remember what I said, Dedicate
