Is it true you need to run 45 minutes before burning any calories?

Monday, July 19th, 2010

I have a mate that used to be in the army and he said that you need to run for 45minutes before burning calories?

i’ve took up jogging and jog 3miles which is about half an hour and then power walk it back so i do 6miles a day but cus im only jogging for 30 minutes does that mean i aint going to lose much?

is this 45 minute thing true?

no, i think your friend was talking about fat calories and glycogen levels ie eating carbs before jogging is pointless because insulin will be released and ANY fat burning will be ignored by your body as carbs are the preferred fuel so the simple solution is this - jog on an empty stomach after drinking water or black coffee and you will be using fat calories for energy within the first minute and then after your run don’t eat ANY carbs just have an ALL protein high OMEGA 3 breakfast of flax seeds, fish, walnuts etc and this will keep your body in the fat burning zone,as soon as you eat any carbs again insulin will be released and fat depletion will come to a complete stop, then for all the other meals eat low carb, high protein, good fat ,repeat for as long as you want to lose more fat, this Diet always works incredibly fast as your metabolism will be fired up after the run and insulin/glycogen will be extremely low..

how can i burn calories off my abs without burning fat off my other body parts?

Friday, July 16th, 2010

I am not fat i just work out a lot and eat like 4000 calories a day cuz i bodybuild. I do tons of ab workouts but they just get stronger. I need to burn the little it of fat covering them. But i dont want my arms and pecs to look all weird

There’s no possible way to "spot target" fat burn. If you eat every 2 hours, and eat fruits and gevvies, though, you will burn fat off.

When you burn calories, your also burning fat right?

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

I was just wondering. WHen you burn Calories your burning calories to lose weight right? Which includes fat?

When you are doing intense cardio (jogging at a good pace) your body is using carbs as the chief source of energy the same goes for sprinting, weight training, playing football, etc… However, when you’re doing less intense cardio (walking at good pace) your body is using fat as the chief source of energy.

If you were to step on a treadmill and walk at fast pace say 4-4.5 mph for 60 minutes this is what happens: The first 30 minutes you burn carbs until your body runs out of glycogen (muscle and liver glycogen) once this happens the body switches to fat burning mode. During the last 30 minutes or 60 minutes if you were to work out for 90 minutes straight on the treadmill, your body would be burning fat so you can keep training. The best source of energy is fat because it provides a lot of energy per gram 9 calories compared to 4 for carbs(glucose and glycogen) and 4 for protein (muscle).

The kicker is the more intensely you work out the greater the calorie burn but again its mostly carbs at high intensity compared to low intensity which burns more fat but not much calories. That is why you do workouts with varying intensity to get the best of both worlds(high calories burned and higher fat usage).

If a man lost 20 pounds in 2 months then he would lose water, muscle, glycogen, and fat. The key is to minimize the water and muscle loss and maximize the fat loss which can be done on a Diet high in protein, lower in fat, and plenty of water daily.
