How many calories should I eat per day to maintain my weight?

Monday, September 13th, 2010

I am 14 years old, 165 cm , 110 pounds (50kg) and I want to maintain my weight , how many calories should I eat per day to maintain it? I normally eat around 2000 as I am still growing but sometimes I eat less like today I ate 1630 calories. I walk to and from school for 10 minutes every day and I excercise twice a week. Please don’t say you’re too young to count calories etc. 10 points for useful answer!

It sounds like you know a thing or two about weight management. But despite your routine there are some days when you will eat or burn off less or more calories. We all know that every calorie counts, in that they can really add up. If you consistently eat about 2000 and do your ten minute walk you should be OK.

However, I would like to propose that you use some tech to help you track and manage your weight. Try these resources:

How can they add calorie content to a box of assorted donuts?

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

Isn’t each flavor donut different? Like how can a chocolate covered one be the same as the plain? Can someone explain that to me? I wanted to choose the best one but there was only one calorie content panel.

Beats me–prolly an average, or, or if they’re conniving little abstrads, they report the lowest of the lot to make ‘em look better, calorie panel dressing don’t you know?

How is it possible to burn more calories than you consume if you have the energy to burn calories?

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

If calories are the fuel that provide your body with energy how is it possible for the body to still function when it loses more calories than it gains. For example, when a car uses up all of its gas its unable to drive because it has no more fuel. How are humans able to use calories they don’t have to further burn more calories. If we use up all of our calories shouldn’t that also mean we used up all of the energy that enables our bodies to move? Is there another energy source besides calories?

You’ve figured out what no one seems to understand. This is why all Diets fail–because in order to diet you have to be hungry all day every day while your body reluctantly uses its fat stores to supply the energy it’s not getting from what you eat.

How many calories do I need to burn a day to lose 2 lbs a week?

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

I’m 5′10 and weigh about 145 lbs. I want to get down to 135lbs. I’m not sure how many calories I burn a day just going thru the motions of day to day tasks. I have also been trying to run/walk 30 mins at least 3 days a week.

I’m not sure how many calories I should be consuming or how many calories I need to burn to reach my goal.

Thanks!

You need to burn 1000 more calories than you eat each day to lose 2 pounds per week.

What is the lowest calorie birthday cake flavor?

Friday, June 25th, 2010

I’m ordering my brother a birthday cake today, but he is on a diet. I wanted to get him a cake he could enjoy, without completely wrecking his Diet. I was just going to get a small 8 inch one with decoration.

What is the lowest calorie birthday cake flavor: carrot, white, chocolate, or yellow?
Or would a cookie or brownie cake be lower calorie?

Thanks for the help!

They are all about the same calorie wise, cookies and brownies even worse!

The best bet is to make it yourself. Just get a box mix and instead of all the things they list to mix in, add in a can of diet soda and bake. Comes out perfect! Then you can use regular frosting, but only a bit or do what I do: Make a yellow cake batter with diet sprite and use it for cupcakes. Top each cupcake with vanilla flavored cool whip (just add a little vanilla extract) and fresh fruit!

How long does it take for low calorie diet to slow down metabolism?

Monday, June 14th, 2010

I was wondering because this week has been hectic with school and everything and I calculated the amount of calories I ate the past few days and it was only around 900………….I’ll start eating better tomorrow with around 1300 calories, but I was just curious how long it takes for low calorie diets to slow down the metabolism.

For example, if I ate 800 calories one day, would it slow my metabolism down?

Low Calorie Diets DON’T WORK.

You won’t lose weight using a Low Calorie Dieting Plan. In fact, eating low calories is the worst thing that you can do to your body, since that will only slow down your body’s fat burning engine and ruin all chances of losing weight (low calorie Diets may allow a few pounds of weight loss for the first few days, but then after that all weight loss comes to a halt — known as a dieting plateau). You can never get slim by starving yourself.

What low calorie foods can be roasted over a campfire on a stick?

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

I will be taking my children camping this summer. I have lost over 50 pounds on a calorie reduced diet over the past five months (89 pounds over the past year). I am looking for some "treat" ideas that can be roasted over a campfire besides marshmallows and hotdogs. They would ideally be less than 200 calories and not overly sweet. The only thing I can come up with is chicken skewers with vegetables. Any other ideas?

Fruit. When you put fruit like bananas and pineapples of very high heat, the natural sugars caramelize in the fruit and make it much sweeter. It almost tastes like your cheating on your Diet. Look up some recipes for it online.

CALORIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

Im a 16 year old girl, 5′7 and 130-135 pounds. I exercise an hour a day doing cardio. Is 1500 calories a good amount? Or should i do 1200? My goal is to have a thin but healthy figure and to be toned.
HELP!

Keep with 1500. 1200 could get a little unhealthy.

How come you feel fuller from eating a higher-calorie food, if nutrients are absorbed in the intestine?

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

Why would you feel fuller from eating a doughnut vs. an apple for example, if your body doesn’t absorb the calories from the food until it reaches the intestine? Both foods would occupy around the same volume in your stomach, so isn’t it the calories that cause the feeling of fullness? Are the calories absorbed earlier, or does your body somehow know that a food is more calorie-rich, or what?

Because you touch yourself at night. (to the "why" questions anyways)
