How do you measure Cardiovascular Efficiency?

Monday, August 31st, 2009

My science homework is proving a little hard! Can anyone help me out???
The actual question is "Describe how you could attempt to measure cardiovascular efficiency?" Am I stupid or is this really such a hard question?

I’ll point you i the right direction. One of the measures used to assess an athletes cardiovascular efficiency is VO2 max. or volume of oxygen uptake.

Have a look around the net for that.

[Edit. I think I might have jumped in there with an over technical answer. Resting heart rate and working heart rate at a given workload can also be indicators of a persons cardiovascular efficiency]

How do I personally get a good cardiovascular swimming workout?

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

During the winter, I swim all the time on a swim team, so I am a decent swimmer and I get a good workout then. I would like to swim off-season to get in shape, not necessarily to work on my swimming, but more to get in good cardiovascular shape and to lose some weight.
So, does anyone have a good workout I could follow? Thanks!!

I have that same problem: What to do on the off season. Well, I go biking every other day for 45 minutes to an hour. Then I weight lifts. On the other days, I run, and then weight lifts. With the running and biking it helps keep you in shape for swim. When you start up again, you will feel like you are really out of shape, but you are just using different muscles. Also, do ab workouts, like crunches, and then leg lifts and v-sits, pikes and bikes. If you strengthen up your abs, your turns will be faster, and your times will improve.

How do the cardiovascular and respiratory systems work together?

Monday, July 27th, 2009

I have to describe the structure and functions of the the cardiovascular system and the respiratory system. I can manage that but I now need to link the two systems, ie how they work together. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My brain has gone numb, and I just cannot get my head around it. Sooo fuzzy with revision and course work. Thank you. Also, any ideas where I can find good diagrams of both these systems. Thanks again.

Your cardiovascular system carries blood out of your heart and through your lungs to be reoxygenated, and then dispenses it throughout your body though different vessels. It then returns to be oxygenated again.

Does a cardiovascular based workout work the best for weight loss?

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

I am conflicted whether to perform more cardiovascular excercise (treadmills, ellipticals) or do a cross-train cardiovascular/weights session to lose weight in general? Most of the men’s magazines mention to do a weight routine, but alot of people have told me to stick to the treadmill. What are your thoughts?

you should cross train because with the cardiovascular then you will get your heart rate up burning calories. but by building muscle mass using weights you will burn calories when you aren’t working out
