What is a good method to quit drinking without having to turn to groups like AA?

Monday, June 28th, 2010

I go out to sports bars a couple times a week lately. I don’t intend to get drunk, but once I start drinking, I always go beyond what I wanted to drink. I don’t drink liquor, only beer.

The problem is the hangover the next day pretty much takes that day away from me. I’m tired of losing days with my family to being sick, because I’m choosing a few hours of "good" times the night before. It is like the old saying, "I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired."

I’ve decided to quit drinking all together, and it is going well. The first step to start with for me has been to avoid the sports bars. I know I can’t avoid them forever, as we go out with family and friends to them. I’ve been able to have a good time drinking Diet Coke.

I feel I am a strong minded person, and I can commit and beat this problem with my own strength and will power.

I would appreciate any other tips that you could share with me to help me on my way.

Keep a journal. I know it sounds cheesy, but you’ll start to really figure out why you want it. Why you need the break from reality. It’s become a hobby, right? Finding a new one to replace the drinking helps, too. Golf, cooking, movies, coaching kids, anything. Something that you can find more rewarding. You know?

If I ask a doctor, being 13, would he say i’d be able to use L-carnitine?

Monday, June 7th, 2010

its a Diet supplement
and i researched it and found nothing bad
except more and high energy
which to me is a good thing unless it makes my heart rate to fast
(which is a maybe)
choosing bestanswer too!
thanks<3

L-carnitine is widely used as a natural method for weight loss since it enables burning of fat at much higher speeds. It can also decrease your cravings, increase your energy during exercise and increase your metabolic rate.

Side Effects :

Taking normal levels of carnitine does not lead you to experience unpleasant side effects. However, you may be able to experience having too much energy when taking them, and if you take them later during the day, you might have difficulties falling asleep. These side effects are not really reason for concern in many people, as they are mostly mild to moderate, and easy to deal with.

Some reported L-carnitine side effects include vomiting, nausea, headache, diarrhea, stuffy nose, restlessness and sleeping difficulty. Some serious side effects may include fast heartbeat rates, increase in your blood pressure and fever.

Is L-carnitine safe to take?

Well, based on the facts presented above, the advantages of using the supplement go far beyond potential risks. It is very safe to take as long as you take it in the prescribed dosage. L-carnitine side effects can only prove harmful to you if you do not use it as advised.

Is this diet healthy?

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

I am 18, 189lbs, 5ft 6in. I have been working out at the gym for 3 weeks now going on 4 and I am barely seeing any results and what I mean by that I stopped losing weight(I think). When I first started I was allegedly 191lbs. I do a mixture of cardio and weightlifting. I LARGELY cut back on sweets and drink tons of water, but may have a few slips here and there which is expected. I know weight loss doesn’t happen overnight, but I want to see some kind of results and soon. So I found this diet at my gym. Is this healthy?

1st WEEK:
EVERY DAY BREAKFAST:½ Grapefruit, 1 or 2 boiled or poached eggs, coffee or tea.
(ALL EGGS IN Diet EITHER BOILED OR POACHED)
MONDAY:
- Lunch:Same as breakfast.
- Dinner:Lean meat or fish, lettuce salad, 1 slice dry toast, ½ grapefruit, coffee or tea.

TUESDAY:
- Lunch:Same as breakfast.
- Dinner:Lean meat or fish, lettuce & tomato salad, ½ grapefruit, coffee or tea.

WEDNESDAY:- Lunch:1 or 2 eggs, spinach, ½ grapefruit, coffee or tea.
- Dinner:Lean meat or fish, lettuce, tomato & carrot salad, ½ grapefruit, coffee or tea.

THURSDAY:- Lunch:1 or 2 eggs, ½ cup carrots, ½ grapefruit, coffee or tea.
- Dinner:Lean meat or fish, lettuce salad, ½ grapefruit, coffee or tea.

FRIDAY:- Lunch:1 or 2 eggs, cabbage, ½ grapefruit, coffee or tea.
- Dinner:Broiled fish (NO BREADING), lettuce, tomato & carrot salad, ½ grapefruit, coffee or tea.
SATURDAY:- Lunch:FRESH fruit salad (NOT CANNED) EAT ALL YOU WANT!
- Dinner:Lean meat or fish, lettuce & tomato, ½ grapefruit, coffee or tea.

SUNDAY:- Lunch:Diced chicken (NO SKIN) with chopped celery and green pepper, lemon juice or vinegar, ½ grapefruit, coffee or tea.
- Dinner:Broiled chicken (NO SKIN), lettuce salad, ½ grapefruit, coffee or tea.
SUBSTITUTIONS:The following may be substituted for "2 eggs" anywhere in the diet.
Choose only ONE when you substitute:
3 oz. lean beef, ½ cup salmon (water packed)
2 Frankfurters, 8 oz. Sardines (well drained and pat dry with paper towel)
1 small can tuna (water packed)
½ cup cottage cheese (Light n’ Lively preferred)
During 2nd
week ONLY
2nd WEEK:REPEAT 1ST WEEK

I am a bit skeptical because won’t the eggs cause me to have high cholesterol. Which I DO NOT HAVE right now.

this is a good diet to lose weight quick. I am doing this diet for 3 months but for drastic measures, it’s a diet that heart patients use to lose weight before surgery.

Is religion like a poor diet choice for your mind; choosing comfort food over healthy food?

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Is religion junk food for your mind?

hmm. Even those who reject religion have a religion… Religion to you may look like rhetoric, but at the core of religion is faith. It takes faith to believe there is no god. To make such a claim one must put themselves in the place of god as being all-knowing, and all-present. As such, to claim "there is no god" is a faith statement. albeit an inaccurate assumption.
