is cereal bad for you?

my mom tries all these stupid fad Diets. she went to a diet conference last week and they warned about how dangerous cereal is to the body and she came home and threw all the cereal away!

i only eat the following cereals:
kashi go lean crunch
kashi strawberry fields
fiber one caramel delight
cinnamon life

all of these are supposed to be healthier cereals. i’m not talking about lucky charms and cocoa puffs and all that. the kashi i ate had alot of fiber and i haven’t pooped in almost a week since i havent ate cereal and i used to poop every day.

If my hubby doesn’t get his shredded wheat and fiber, his system is very unhappy. I on the other hand, have recently found out I am gluten intolerant, so most bread and cereal will make me sick and keep my digestive system from absorbing nutrition properly- go figure! so you should eat what works well for you, as long as you do it in moderation. Listen to your own body- if it makes her more comfortable, try eating fruit and veggie sources of fiber for a week or so- If you still aren’t regular, go back to your fiber rich cereal. If it takes the cereal for you to function properly, you will have empirical evidence, no reasonable mother can argue with that!
As far as "healthier" foods go- you really have to read the details in the labels to be sure- A lot of this is hype- simply a sales tactic.

Is anyone else getting tired of these "how can I lose 10 pounds in 1 day" questions?

I read the diet and fitness section and there are so many people wanting to find out the easy fast method of losing weight. Not only is it ridiculous, but dangerous. People are always looking for the easy way out. Losing weight takes alot of effort, and it’s a lifetime commitment. Why do you think we praise people with amazing bodies? Cause they work hard for it. (I know, there are exceptions..but those people are few). A great example is Jessica Alba, who works hard for her body.
You can’t just fad diet, and expect to have a body of a God…it’s a lifestyle.
We live in a diet crazed society, and it’s disgusting to see how many young kids are obsessing over their weight.
I eat well and exercise. I never starve myself, and I hate when people ask me if I’m dieting. "No, I don’t diet. A Diet is temporary, I’m doing this for the rest of my life". I love learning about nutrition, and I try to go on yahoo to share my knowledge but get turned off by all these crazy fad diets people are trying. Start thinking about your health, and not what size jeans you want to fit into. Everything will come into place.

Please, I would like to hear anyone disagree with me. It’ll be interesting.

This is so true. Like I always say, a Diet will only work if it is part of a healthy lifestyle. There is no sense in starving yourself if you do not adapt an active lifestyle and a healthy eating habit. Fad diets are just what they are - fads. You may lose some weight in the short term but you can easily gain it back once you lose interest.
