Losing weight, exercise and diet?

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

I’ve been serious dieting and working out for about 2 months now I guess, maybe a month and a half of real serious dieting, and I’ve lost about 18lbs. I’m kinda at a stand still now, any ideas to help change that?
My Diet is like this: mon-thur its roughly the same thing except dinner changes:
breakfast: I eat oatmeal,
snack: a fiber bar,
lunch: half a turkey sandwhich (deli meat) on wheat bread with mustard
snack: fruit cup or applesauce
supper: either salad, healthy choice steamer, weds (grilled chick sandwhich from zaxbys or chicfila), bowl of cereal sometimes if I can’t find anything to eat.
on friday, sat, and sun: i don’t eat as much bc I sleep late yet I still workout atleast fri and sun (weather it be running or swimmin)

Working out:
Mon and tues: exercise/stretches in the morning, I run 30 mins at lunch on illeptical and then in the evening I run 30mins on illeptical and 30 on the treadmill and do some weights
weds-thurs: exercise in the morning,I run 30mins a lunch and then in then run on a track outside with my bf about 2 miles (walk/run) and do some more exercises.
Fri-Sun: Swim/run atleast two days
‘I also babysit a 3 and 4 yr old and clean house (not heavy duty cleaning everyday, just a little here and there each day, sweeping/mopping, laundry, dishes etc.)
Oh fri, sat and sun I eat like either a oriental grilled chic salad from applebees, or like the garlic chicken from there, sometimes I eat a hot dog if we grill out, I eat veggies with them..umm…just stuff like that.

There are few things wrong with this diet.

Not enough protein.
Not enough healthy fats.
Too many carbs in relation to your protein/fat intake.
And potentially not enough calories for your bodyweight. (I say potentially because you don’t tell us what you weigh)
3 out of 7 days you say you are eating even less than the other 4 days.

So, eating as you have for the last 6-8 weeks will lead to muscle loss. Some fat loss too. But the muscle loss will slow your metabolism. As will the miminal calories. So, now your metabolism is a crawl because it needs certain nutrients you aren’t providing it. Yeah, it’s used incorrectly alot around here, but the dreaded "starvation mode".

On top of all that bad news, you are exercising too. Which puts more demand and stress on your body. Not too mention them 3 and 4 year old kids lol very stressfull on your body.

Yeah, that’s why your loss has stopped.

Good luck!!

What sort of diet and exercise plan should I take on to make my mind and body sharp?

Monday, August 30th, 2010

I am a healthy weight at 140 lbs and 5′10” but I would ideally like to be about 130. I am in school, get little sleep and have a toddler, nephew, husband, 2 stepkids, household chores and a life to tend to…I would like to know what sorts of food I should eat more of, what should I cut out? How often should I exercise and what should I do when I exercise. I can’t get to the gym anymore, so it will require walking and thats really it…

Keep sugar to a minimum, and if you have to have some, try to get it in before noon and definitely not late at night. Sugar is the main reason people put on weight. Sugar hides in a lot of places, so you have to read labels. Keeping meat and dairy to a healthy minimum also helps a lot. I go through phases sometimes when I’m a vegan, and the weight just slides right off and I always feel like I’m thinking better. Eat lots and lots of organic veggies and whole grains, like quinoa, which has lots of protein.

You should exercise pretty much every day for about an hour, though it doesn’t have to be all at once. Your best bet is to include your kids somehow, like taking them for a walk, playing kickball, jumping rope, or whatever they like to do that’s physical. Then you kill three birds with one stone. 1. You get exercise. 2. They get exercise (and learn good habits). 3. You get some great bonding time with the kiddos. If the toddler is underfoot, you could put him/her in an Ergo carrier while you’re playing with the older kids, and then the toddler will be having a good time, too.

If you have time early in the morning or late at night all to yourself, try a relaxing, restorative yoga DVD. You sound like you deserve some quiet, peaceful stretching and breathing!

That said, 140 is a really great weight for your height. I’m sure you look fantastic already.

what is a good diet and exercise plan?

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

im 17 and 180-190 lbs. i really want to lose weight to be in the 140’s, and i want to start now so when school starts up and ill have senior pictures i will look better and feel better.right now i walk a lot because of the school i go to, you have to walk to get to different rooms and classes. i have a horrible calorie intake, sometimes i over eat, then there’s days i don’t even eat enough to be over 1000 calories. i have no clue where to start and what to do, i have a plan for summer, like running at 8 n the morning when school is out and im moving all day long, and eating less, but im not sure of exactly what to eat, and i get bored with it so is there a website of healthy things to eat?, and im picky, like badly so they have to be kind of good too i guess to me. but how long should i exercise daily? is it necessary to count calories? do you have to do it no matter what? please tell me anything and everything…im getting desperate now.

just make sure that you exercise, you should eat like 6 times a day but small portions and that will help speed up your metabolism you can eat almost whatever you want as long as its small portions and you exercise. if you try and loose it really fast there is a good chance that you will just gain the weight right back seriously. be sure to eat slowly too
