Healthy diet - About how many calories should a person eat everyday?

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

About how many calories should a person eat everyday.
Can u list the foods that a person should eat for a healthy diet.

2000 calories is too much or too little depending on the person.
A rough estimate is your current weight times 10 first
.I am 132# 1320 calories to maintain my weight for lying in bed all day. Add 10% (132) for digesting and eating food
S0 1452, next times your activity level
0.2 for sedentary
0.3 for moderately active (1452 x 0.3=435.6+1452=1887.6 calories per day to maintain my weight)
So 2000 would be too much.
You need to plug the numbers to find your needs. To lose weight remove no more than 500 calories per day (unless your caloric needs exceed 3000 calories per day) from what is needed to MAINTAIN your weight. With that you should lose roughly 1 lb per week (3500 calories = 1 # of fat)
0.5 for highly active.
Your intake should not be any lower than 1200 calories per day of highly varied foods, that contains
fruit, rainbow of fruits
veggies brighter=more vitamins
lean meats (or meat alternatives) skinless chicken pork loin, round ste, tofu, soybeans, legumes
a healthy balance of fats, canola oil, flaxseed oil, non-hydrogenated margarine or a small amount of butter,
whole grains
lowfat dairy lowfat yogurt and cottage cheese (also a meat alternative) lowfat cheese
and low in sugar. limit sodas, ban the sugar bowl. There is no Dietary recommendation for sugar-
whole grains-wheat bread (3 grams of fiber per svg) brown rice, whole wheat tortillas

There is actually a more complex formula that uses your height, gender and age. But this formula is adequate enough and if you are looking the best way to lose weight, i suggest doing what this mom did

Is 1,100 calories a day okay for a diet?

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

I tried a 1,200 calorie Diet for a moth and only lost 2 pounds, i was burning 300 calories a day as well. So should I switch to 1,100 calories. Is this safe, cause my other ideas weren’t.

Would speak to your doctor first. If you did not lose on 1,200 calories there may be an issue with your metabolism. Lifting weights and getting adequate protein intake should aid in fat loss, while maintaining muscle. Although slow weight loss is better especially if you don’t have much too lose, then the fat is more like to stay off for good.

How much weight would I gain in a month if I add 500 calories to my diet?

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

I am trying to gain weight. Right now I weigh 109… I am 5′3, I would like to weight between 115-120lbs. I have figured out my rmr and decided to try and add about 500 calories a day to my Diet with excersize (to keep toned, build muscle). How much weight should I gain in a month of doing this?

Each 3500 calories is about 1lb, so adding 500 calories daily should result in 1lb per week.

What are some healthy ways to gain weight/add calories into my diet?

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

I struggle with being underweight and have for a long time. I don’t take in enough calories during the day to make up for how many I burn. What are some healthy ways to add calories into my diet without dumping junk food into my body? And I already know that working out will help add weight to my body but it’s not just about gaining weight; I would also like to look healthier and thicker.

•Eat three main meals per day that include some type of calorie dense foods such as cheese, seeds, beans or any complex carbohydrate.
•At a minimum, eat three snacks per day. Snacks should be those that are high in calories, vitamins, and minerals but not high in sugar or fat. Nutritious snacks ideas include dried fruits, nuts, wheat crackers, protein bars.
•Add a Dietary supplement such as Ensure, Boost, or Carnation Instant Breakfast between or with meals.
•Add powdered milk to soups, casseroles, shakes, smoothies, and milk. Add butter and oil to dishes. Such as a dab of butter in your oatmeal, or some oil in your pasta.
•Drink a lot of pure fruit juice or milk with and between meals. Juices that are mixed with two or more juices (such as strawberry-kiwi) are higher in calories than a drink that is only one juice.
There is also a product called GNC weight gainer. It is simply a powder that has 1,850 calories per serving. You just mix it with milk.

Other tips…

1) Count how many calories you eat in a normal day. Don’t change anything, just eat like you normally would and count how many calories you consumed. This is an extremely important step, so try to be as exact as possible. Also, weigh yourself.

2) Starting the day after you counted calories, eat 500 calories MORE then you normally do. So, lets pretend that the day you counted calories you counted 2000. For the rest of the week, you would now eat 2500 calories a day. Instead of eating 3 big meals a day or eating all day all the time, spread those calories out over 5-6 smaller meals. Eat one meal every 2 and a half to 3 hours. To get big, you have to eat big! Remember that.

3) Weightlifting! Get in the gym and lift! This is another important step to how to gain weight, so make sure you are doing it correctly. For more information on weightlifting workout routines and splits, read the workout routines and splits section.

4) At the end of that week, weigh yourself. You’ll notice you’re gaining just after one week! Now, don’t expect to see a 10lb increase. Gaining anymore then 1 or 2 pounds a week is unhealthy and means you’re putting on way to much fat. So look for 1 or 2 pound gains at the end of the week. Don’t sound like much? You can be gaining 5-8 pounds a month!

5) Heres an important one. At some point, you will stop seeing weight gain. At this point, you will have to eat even more. So, when you stop gaining for at least 2 weeks, it means it is time to start eating an extra 250 calories a day. Every time you see you haven’t gained weight for at least 2 weeks, add an extra 250 calories.

Good luck. :)

Increase Your Metabolism With the Negative Calorie Diet

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Many people are surprised to learn that they can lose weight simply by eating certain types of foods. How is this possible, you ask? Everyone knows that if you burn more calories then you take in you will burn excess body fat. The problem is most people go about this the wrong way by cutting to many calories only to find out that their metabolism begins to slow down because of the lack of caloric energy.

One of the best ways to increase your metabolism is by eating a negative calorie diet that consists of healthy foods. Look at it this way, the more nutritious the food you eat the better off your body will be. Kind of like your mom used to tell you when you tried to hide those peas in your napkin.

The Negative Calorie Diet works because it uses your body’s metabolism to burn all that excess body fat you’ve been trying to get rid of. If you understand how the body digests and processes food and the types of calories those foods provide you’ll begin to see why this type of diet works so well.

Everyday your body needs a certain number of calories to function all the way down to the cellular level. If you don’t get enough calories during the day your metabolism will actually begin to slow down as your body begins to conserve the energy it needs to function properly. If you have enough of a calorie deficit your body will begin to hold onto its fat stores as it cannibalizes its own muscle tissue to supply the energy it needs. This is the worst thing that can happen if you are trying to lose weight.

So what is a negative calorie food and how does it work?

It’s not a food that has a negative amount of calories because all foods have calories; there is just no way around that fact. What is known is that thee are many foods that actually cause a caloric deficit because of the amount of energy it takes to the body to digest and process these foods. It takes more energy to digest a nutrient rich food then food itself contains.

Here’s a simplistic snapshot of how this works. Let’s say you eat a piece of chocolate cake that comes in around 300 calories. Your body uses up 125 calories digesting that piece of cake leaving 175 calories that for the most part is stored as fat. Now let’s see what happen when you eat an apple that has 35 calories. If it takes your body 70 calories to digest that apple you’ve just burned an extra 35 calories simply by eating.

By increasing your metabolism you burn extra calories which results in a loss of bodily fat. One way to bring about that metabolism boost is by eating a negative calorie Diet consisting of healthy food choices and by making the necessary lifestyle changes needed to live a long and healthy life.

Fat Loss Diet Plan - A Highly Effective Weight Loss Diet for the Seriously Fat Person

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

You must have heard umpteen times that a fat loss diet should consist of food that is low in carbohydrates, fatty substances, and calories. You must have already tried out all these diet plans without any successful effect. Are you wondering that all the fat loss diet plans are just a big hoax and none of them are ever effective? Do you think it is impossible to lose weight by following any of these much hyped fat loss diet plans? Unfortunately, you are definitely right! Many of these so called fat loss diet plans are way over hyped and they are not as truly effective in reality. But do not be discouraged because right here is a completely new fat loss diet plan that guarantees optimum weight loss in as little as eleven days. Moreover, this weight loss program is reasonably priced in comparison to many of the diet plans that are being popularly offered online.

The fat loss diet plan according to the Fat Loss 4 Idiots crew is specifically formulated after studying the effects of all other weight loss diet plans and identifying their loopholes. This diet plan is formulated after specifically reaching down to the roots of the fat burning mechanism of the human body. This diet plan is very different because unlike other plans that focus only on the food that is consumed daily, it deals with the behavior of the digestive mechanism of the human body after the food is taken in. According to this diet plan, it does not really matter whether you take in more of carbohydrates or fats. What actually matters is taking the right food in the right intervals of time and following the right pattern. In actual fact, you should be eating three times more than you usually do according to this diet plan. Now that is something that comes as a surprise to you, isn’t it?

Let us reason out why by reducing the carbohydrate or fat intake you do not actually lose much weight. Normally, your body is used to burning a certain amount of calories. If you reduce the number, it will detect the change and adjust itself to the new amount of calories. It will start burning lesser amount of calories and deposit the rest in your body. This in turn does not reduce your weight. The same principle works for melting and burning fat also. The Fat Loss 4 Idiots technique works by simply manipulating the fat burning hormones secretion in your body. They enhance the secretion of the fat burning hormones and decrease the secretion of the fat storage hormones. Because of this, most of the calories are burnt easily and in a jiffy. There is another effective technique that the Fat Loss 4 Idiots diet plan utilizes called calorie shifting which has been scientifically designed to confuse the human body about the amount of calories that are a person consumes. The weight loss enthusiasts are expected to eat varying amounts of calories in a special way.
