Tuesday, November 10th, 2009Enough already! We all know that Diet and exercise and eating fruits and vegetables and watching portion size is supposed to be so healthy for us. We are not children and we were not born yesterday…..and they make it sound like no one will ever have problems if they live their lives "perfectly". I for one can tell you first hand I have been on both the thinner side and the very heavy side of things and believe me….I did not feel any better thinner. My senior year of high school I lost 100 pounds and I was so damn tired from exercising all the time I didn’t even want to get out of bed! I felt like crap. I am 5′8" and I weighed 165 and wore a size 12 and according to the stupid charts doctors have I would still have been considered "overweight" but let me tell you…I had bones sticking out all over and family was concerned that I was anorexic. It just so happens that my body structure handles weight differently than most people and 220 for me is just right! People need to realize not everyone is soo healthy at 130 pounds and I know I will never be nor do I ever want to be that bony! My mom has the same structure…she had 44" hips at 14 years old and was 130 pounds! She just had wider set hips than some girls with boy figures. Everyone is different ( thank god) and just because someone is bigger does not mean they just sit and eat all day….I follow a low carb low calorie diet and I do not lose a pound while my mom has lost 50 doing the same thing and that is due to my thyroid condition…which I believe doctors and everyone should become familiar with and educate themselves about! Fruits and vegetable are great if you like them…I have never liked them and I have tried them and I never will just as most people do not like cigarette smoke…forcing someone to like something is not going to work if they hate the taste! So I have learned not to judge people whether they are thin or bigger or if they smoke or not or if they like healthy foods or not….we are all different and do not need to be squeezed into a mold to be acceptable! And diet and exercise may help for some people but it is not the miracle cure for everything! What do you think? Take care and love yourself the way you are!
Excuse me but I was never forced to eat any junk…..I have never liked the taste of vegetables since birth! Just as I am sure you prefer the taste of one particular wine or beer over another or a girl with bigger boobs or smaller ones..we all have different tastes! But I won’t waste my breath on those who are ignorant.
I have followed a grueling diet and exercise plan and if you read the question I have stated I lost 100 pounds this way….and my quality of life was horrible! I kept it off 3 years and suffered the entire time and if you do the research if your thyroid is low losing weight is more complicated than it would be for someone with normal thyroid levels.
I agree with a few points you made, but not all of them.
People don’t like the taste of vegetables or fruits because they are forced by people/parents to eat junk. Which is harmful especially if you need to lose weight since there is no McDonald’s diet out there.
Diet and exercise is beneficial. Ever since technological advancements, people become more and more lazy. People use to hunt for food, now people just order out, they are getting overweight due to their laziness and their choices.
Of course, I agree there are always exceptions to every rule you can think of. Humans are unique, they have different personalities, which hopefully some people could see past the shell.
