Why did you initially choose this diet? desperation - to control appetite (NO expectations of weight loss) - stopping weight gain was my only goal originally - now it's to weigh less than I did the year before
What is the basic premise of this diet/eating plan? insulin control, low carb, high fat, adequate protein
What were two positive aspects of the diet? no hunger required (high calorie) or exercise needed, appetite control
Were there any downsides to the diet plan? Explain.
first couple of days carb withdrawals & the "induction flu" sluggish headachy first few days - inconvenient, got to cook food for a varied diet (I usually cook 20-30# at time - love my rotisserie, lots of turkey)
Did you have success on this diet? great. life changing success - massive weight loss and GREATLY improved health - perfect cholesterol & low triglycerides
Are you still on the diet plan? for life (5+ years so far)
Have you maintained your weight loss? yes
Do you feel the diet is safe? Why or why not? It is if done right - too many people make up their version - usually low calorie, low fat, low carb and dangerous but most give up quickly & say it didn't work for them
Did you exercise while on the diet? disabled & unable
Would you follow this diet plan again? for a lifetime

I *thought* I had a healthy diet, very low fat, high carb, adequate protein, green salads almost every day & kept getting sicker and fatter. I started Atkins over 5 years ago just to get my appetite under control and to quit gaining weight. I am disabled and can't exercise & I didn't think it was possible to LOSE weight without hunger or exercise (which was how I always controlled my weight before I was disabled, I never believed in low calorie diets) I started Atkins (didn't weigh first) and my tight clothes got huge quick (or I shrunk) I have never tried to lose weight and when my calories got too low, I would force ( it was tough I tell you) myself to eat an extra 1000 calories a day with strawberry ice cream (cream, frozen strawberries, artificial sweetener and a stick blender) to bring it to 1900 cal a day & I still lost weight without trying, just making different low carb choices. I can't worry about my weight until my health is better so losing weight has never been considered or a goal, but with low carb balancing my hormones, I am starting to heal. My cholesterol & triglycerides are now perfect (they were dangerously high on the "low fat" diet before).

I try to keep carbs at 9 carbs or less an hour, for insulin control - This is how they managed diabetes pre-meds.

I could live off eggs, especially omelets or scrambled with broccoli and sausage, fried eggs and pork chops or steak. We go to Denny's for the Grand Slam & I have salad instead of pancakes with my eggs.

I crave fruit more than carbage and indulge occasionally. (berries are lowest glycemic and can be eaten fairly freely) - pork rinds great crunch - i eat lots of fish for snacks (lil tins of fish "steaks" or mackerel are favs), -avocado/mayo/cayenne dip - olives - nuts - cheeses - ground flaxseed, water, mix in egg - nuke 2 min (hot cereal) Cheesecake - strawberry ice cream (frozen berries, cream, a stick blender) Chia seed/coconut milk/sweetner = faux tapioca (sometimes add pumpkin & cream cheese)

Change your mindset - I believe long term low carbers eat as much if not more non starchy vegetables than vegetarians - replace bread with lettuce - replace potato with broccoli -
replace rice with cauliflower - replace pasta with cabbage

A person can lose more body fat eating protein and fat (don't eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast eat all you want but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter and half an avocado a day (you'll need added potassium). Keep the calories high and the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Adding in green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.

If you starve yourself by lowering calories lower than are needed for the body to function, your body will freak out and will want to store every ounce in case it doesn't get nourished again. You need to give it adequate nourishment so it doesn't slow your metabolism down to adjust for lower calories.

Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) triggers insulin which can store the calories you eat into fat. The more protein you eat the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate you eat the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.

High insulin levels unbalance other hormones. Controlling your insulin level will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so you will gain lean muscle even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase your muscle mass with high HGH levels.

Once you get near your goal, you start adding 5 carbs every 3 days til you gain weight, then you subtract
References :
3 min explanation -
