Do people go to the Cleveland Clinic for "regular’ things like they would go to a Primary/Family Physicians?

office down the street? Or are most of thier patients referrals from other docs not practicing there?

Not generally. I was referred for a specific problem to the Cleveland Clinic. Most everyone I know who has ever been there (I know quite a few people) have been referred for a specific problem like I was. You can call and ask them but they are like Pittsburgh, usually just people go there who have problems the everyday MD doesn’t see that often so can’t treat patients with specific medical problems. I’ve been to Pittsburgh and a few others as well.

The Cleveland Clinic operates quite a few family health and outpatient surgery centers in surrounding communities and is affiliated with various hospitals. However, the Clinic itself is for complicated medical problems and research. You might be referred there if you visited one of the family health centers and it were discovered that you had a medical issue requiring complex and specialized care and treatment or surgery. You might also be referred by a doctor who was not associated with the Clinic but knew of its staff’s expertise in a particular area.
