Why have my periods stopped? (Worried!)?

I’m fourteen..
I’ve been on a diet since february that caused me to loose over 2st,
My diet consists of:
3 healthy meals a day (eating 1000 calories a day)
100 sit ups
I’m 5′7(170 centimetres)
I am 9st 10lb (136 pounds)
I was 12st (168 pounds)

I haven’t had a period for two months but I started may 2009,, they were always irregular but not for this long. Please don’t shout or rant at me, I’m scared and I’m not finished on my diet yet, I really want a flat stomach, but I want my periods too, but to carry on loosing weight..

Ok, no rant here. First of all, congratulations on your commitment to losing weight and having a healthier life.

Keep in mind, though, you are 5′7" and 136 your BMI index is 21.3 which is AWESOME for your age and for being a girl. You could continue to lose weight if you wanted but frankly a) you DO NOT need to lose more weight and b) if you did, you would want to try and lose no more than 10 pounds (sorry.. never have been able to convert to stones!) per year.

Bigger than that, you are 14 and scared about your period stopping. That’s a GOOD thing. You should be concerned. At your age, have no period for that length of time is something you and your doctor should be talking about.

I’m assuming you can confirm you are not pregnant, Yes? If you have any reason to believe you could be, first take a pregnancy test before you do anything else.

If you are sure you are not pregnant (or there is no way you could be) then you need to go see your doctor and have a talk with him/her. This is very important. At 14, there are probably about 50 reasons why your period could have stopped. You need to understand and figure out what’s going on before you do any more weight loss or any other major changes.

Finally, I’m a dad and I have daughters. PLEASE…… and I mean it…. PLEASE… slow down on your weight loss for the time being. Keep up the situps and increase your Dietary intake to at least 1800 calories while you figure things out. You will continue to lose weight, I promise. If you are really concerned, then add a kilometer or two walk per day. Regardless, you need to drop the 1,000 calorie days right now. You are NOT obese, in fact, you are no where near obese and you never were. Calories that low at your age could have many bad effects on you and you don’t need to further complication your health. Please. seriously consider this.

Good luck. I hope this helps

First of all.. has a doctor approved this diet??? Only 1000 calories a day for a fourteen year old does seem quite low. Most older women when dieting go more towards 1,200-1,550 calories a day. I would DEFINITELY see a doctor or a nutritionist to double check what you are eating.

You are doing 100 situps a day… are there any other exercises or activities that you are doing that are eating up other calories?

The fact is you only have had your period for about 1 year and it was irregular. Adding in this diet is probably messing with it. I would talk to a doctor, gynocologist, or a nutritionist. I would freak out but you need to get it checked it out.
