Do you REALLY, REALLY think it’s important to get your cholesterol down?

I have overall cholesterol of 215 high (200 being the cut off), my HDL is 42 (normal range), my LDL is 151 high (cut off 100), my risk ratio LDL/HDL is 3.59 high (cut off 3.22), my triglycerides are normal. I had a high sensitivity CRP which is 0.4 — low risk for heart event.

I have cut back to eating meat 1-2 times weekly, stopped eating candy bars and drinking Coca-cola. I have also started taking Red Yeast Rice (like a -statin) and CoQ10 nightly. (And yes, I do know that exercise raises HDL - the "good" cholesterol.)

According to THIS article: http://www.westonaprice.org/Dangers-of-Statin-Drugs-What-You-Havent-Been-Told-About-Popular-Cholesterol-Lowering-Medicines.html -statins are bad and the concern about CHOLESTEROL is overrated.

So, is it REALLY, REALLY important to lower my cholesterol???!!! My doctor only advised a "low-cholesterol diet."
I already eat a good diet of veggies and am adding more fruit now.

(I weigh 120 lbs. and am 5′5′.)
I just found an LDL cholesterol calculator: here’s the link–try it out yourself!

It’s really important you start eating a normal healthy Diet that consists mostly of fresh fruit and veg. If you don’t eat crap and exercise regularly then you’ll have no need for these drugs.

You don’t need to take drugs to get your cholesterol in a good range. Exercising and eating a healthy diet are enough to do that, but you can’t skip out on the exercising :\ Sorry! It sounds like you are doing a good job starting out, but keep going!

The concern about cholesterol is not overrated. Cholesterol slowly will cause your arteries to become clogged which can raise blood pressure, cause diabetes and lead to heart attacks. Unless you want these problems later, cholesterol IS something to be worried about.

Weston Price is funded by producers of meat and dairy, so I wouldn’t take their medical recommendations seriously. (That would be like taking health advice from Phillip Morris.)
However, it is certainly preferable to lower your cholesterol naturally. Since you aren’t far outside of normal range, it shouldn’t be difficult.

    Helpful Herbs
Cayenne (capsicum), goldenseal, and hawthorn berries help lower cholesterol. Kombucha Tea has also been found to lower cholesterol.

    Supplements:
    (use as directed)
    Apple Pectin
    Chromium Picolinate
    Garlic
    Lecithin
    Vitamin B3 (Niacin)
    Vitamin C with bioflavonoids

    Dietary:
The following foods help to lower cholesterol:
Apples, bananas, carrots, dried beans, garlic, grapefruit, olive oil.
Increasing dietary fiber is very important:
Consume plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, barley, beans, brown rice and oats.
Drink fresh (unpasteurized) juices, especially carrot, celery and beet.
Avoid animal products, and fried or fatty foods.
Do not consume alcohol, candy, carbonated drinks, caffeine, gravies, non-dairy creamers, pastries, processed or refined foods, and avoid tobacco.
    Get regular moderate exercise.

If you don’t get your cholesterol down your arteries can get clogged up with cholesterol and this can lead to a heart attack or a stroke.
