I need a diet to help lower cholesterol level?
63 year old male with level at 6.6 otherwise very healthy and a non-smoker.
My doctor suggest this is a bit higher than ideal but not life threatening. I need some ideas to reduce it over a reasonable time. My target is less than 5.0 within 6 months. Any ideas greatly appreciated. If it matters I’m in the UK.
Thank You
Dave
I Think I understand. Would you just like tips or an actual plan. I’m not sure, so I’ll give you both.
Plan:
1.You could try this plan: http://www.healthcastle.com/TLCdiet.shtm
It should help lower your cholesterol but I don’t know how long it will take. It was released for people in probably more serious conditions but I think you would still be able to do it though. Just note that afterwards, you should maintain it in a way and eat the said amount of fruit, vegetables and fats.
Or : This is called the biggest loser diet, it will help you lose weight and lower your cholesterol. If you lose weight to much, add on another portion of whole grains.
2.Here :
4 servings of fruits and vegetables
3 servings of protein — lean, vegetarian, or low-fat dairy
2 servings of whole grains
1 extra of fats, oils, sweets, alcohol, or your choice, equivalent to 200 calories
3. Buy this book: http://www.amazon.co.uk/7-day-Low-Cholesterol-Diet-Plan/dp/0572025092
It has about 4 pages with a cholesterol lowering 7 day plan and the rest are different recipes. It is quite cheap as well.
4.The Rainbow Diet. Great, interesting. Will have a lot of variety and gives good results.

Make sure you read all the text. It says what to do and also what else you can have, like free vegetables.
5. You could join weight watchers or Rosemary Conley ( RC has excercise needed) but that’s more for losing weight. It would lower cholesterol too, though.
Tips:
Eat 6 - 8 fruit and vegetables portions a day
Cut down on saturated fat
Try Leaner meat and not whole eggs ( if possible)
Drink lots of water and less caffeine
Eat Oatmeal and other high-grain foods.
Don’t always trust all diets. Some will lose you weight and lower your cholesterol, but then you’ll just gain it all again. The ones I have chosen don’t usually, but afterwards try to eat around the same things to maintain your healthy weight and cholesterol.
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
P.S. And think, a handful of food will fill you up, or should. Your stomach is that small!
Also, think about if your hungry or not really.
Don’t eat food because your bored. Spread it out and keep busy.

Your power-foods are going to be oatmeal (fiber), fish (omega-3 fatty acids), walnuts, and olive oil. Cut back on your total fat, especially saturated and transfats usually found in meats and dairy products.

hey. you need to have exercise daily, every morning as often. i ave some tips for you
1.Drink plenty of water or other calorie-free beverages.
2.Think about what you can add to your diet, not what you should take away.
-Start by focusing on getting the recommended 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables each day.
3.Consider whether you’re really hungry.
-Your stomach is only the size of your fist, so it takes just a handful of food to fill it comfortably,"
4.Be choosy about nighttime snacks.
Mindless eating occurs most frequently after dinner, when you finally sit down and relax.
hope it helped^^

Dear David,
It’s quite quick and easy to reduce your cholesterol level by using natural methods. First of all, you should know that cholesterol is not an enemy but it protects you against harmful free radicals and other acidic metabolic wastes which your body cannot excrete at the speed it is produced. So, if you help your body make it more alkaline, there won’t be any reason for your body to increase cholesterol level.
There is a fantastic book about the topic if you are interested: The pH Miracle, written by Dr. R. O. Young. http://amzn.to/b2TDeb
You can also visit my blog from where you can get into a store and find one of the greatest alkalizing green powders, the so called SuperGreens and Prime pH.

All the best,
Maria
